Actress and left-wing activist Jane Fonda told CNN’s Don Lemon in an interview that aired late Wednesday night that “whether it’s through the elections or through impeachment,” President Donald Trump needs to be removed from office for the sake of the environment.
“He is an oil President. His Cabinet is an oil Cabinet,” Fonda told the CNN Tonight host when he asked for her thoughts on the ongoing partisan impeachment proceedings against President Trump. “He is bought off by fossil fuels. And a lot of people in the Senate, a lot of Republican candidates, are too.”
“We can’t solve the problem when we have elected officials who are paid by the fossil fuel industry,” Fonda added. “And so the sooner that we move beyond him, the better, whether it’s through the elections or through impeachment or whatever.”
The star of Netflix’s Grace and Frankie announced earlier this year that she would take a break from acting and move to Washington, D.C., to commit herself to fight climate change.
And for four consecutive Fridays, Fonda has protested and has been arrested alongside some of her famous friends.
“I’m trying to show on my ‘Fire Drill Fridays,’ this is the new normal,” the actor told Lemon. “We have to be out there. We have to be risking arrest. We have to engage in civil disobedience because we have very little time and what has to happen is so huge.”
Endorsing Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s trillion-dollar Green New Deal, Jane Fonda compared the plan to the kind of program that passed during the Great Depression. “Everyone will be lifted, and we have to fight for that,” she said of the proposal. “Which means we can’t elect anybody to office that isn’t really brave.”

Jane Fonda? Isn’t she the one who should have been jailed for treason during the Viet Nam War? She is consistent, however. She’s still on the anti-American side of the question.
Jane Fonda, like so many of these famous movie stars now lecturing the world, is entirely a product of the world she condemns. Maybe she should stick as in her TV series, Grace and Frankie, to making vibrators? But are they based on Green energy?
The state of Hawaii has just filed a large law suit againt “major oil” to punch those corporations for the damage done by climate change. Fine. Just show us an example of this damage and maybe somebody should listen. On the other hand, we do know that climate does change over varying periods of time, but it remains to be seen if the net result is damage or benefit. Whatever the end result, the idea that oil companies are to be held accountable for it is completely nuts. Just image the state of our society today if the decision had been made in the year 1900 that petroleum should be left in the ground and not used for energy. A creative novelist could really work with that as an alternate reality.
Given Hawaii has no oil/gas deposits and has only one remaining refinery perhaps those horrible oil companies should just not send them any oil or refined products. Given their number one industry is tourism see how long they can survive without those horrible fossil fuels!
Number one, no one has proven the net benefit of eliminating fossil fuels. Nobody. There ARE social benefits from taxing them.
Number two, no one has proven the net benefit of a colder world, unless you’re a glacier and want to put on some weight.
Number three, rich mouthpieces like actors and Soros, Steyer, Bloomberg, Suzuki et al, should throw their hypocritical, ill – gotten gains back into society before they take the pulpit. It is too easy to eschew money after you have clawed yourself to the top at the expense of lesser humans.
Jane, if you feel runaway warming, it’s probably that your Depends are overflowing.
Hanoi Jane American Traitor her movies stink her idiot brother is dead just another of the leftists nit-wits parading and preening around like the arrogant old Peacocks they are just another of the Hollywood left add to our Boycott list
I’m going to make a constructive suggestion (here) to anyone reading this comment section. As I see it, the ENTIRE conversation on climate change is completely misdirected. Regardless of your position on modest planet warming since the beginning of the industrial revolution & potential impacts of CO2, the current debate is completely misguided. Instead of vilifying energy PROVIDERS, somehow, the conversation needs to change. I’d submit a more productive conversation around the Thanksgiving dinner table would be alternatives regarding our ongoing ENERGY TRANSITION and attendant environmental protection. THAT is within human control and eliminates all the EMOTION. So, on that basis, if fossil fuels disappeared tomorrow, you have to answer only ONE fundamental question: “What CLEAN, SUSTAINABLE & SCALABLE alternative do you propose to REPLACE 95% of U.S transportation fuel & industrial heat and 65% of our electricity generation?” Slogans like “100% renewables by 2050” have no basis in REALITY. The transition of our energy system is too important to be relegated to a continuing exercise in “drama & theater.” Time to start asking the RIGHT questions…
You know, I grow real TIRED of the continued vilification of the oil & gas industry. As a 35 year (plus) veteran of that industry, most of that in regulatory & compliance, I openly RESENT these types of baseless comments. I take this a bit more personally as a retired professional who tirelessly worked (like all others I had the privilege to work with) to responsibly put a gallon of JET FUEL in her private jet. As usual, no constructive SOLUTIONS, just running the activist “smack. My only REGRET at this stage is the complete FAILURE of my former industry to actively engage in the energy transition & environmental protection debate. I have long said it’s time to “take the gloves off” and actively discredit these activists. They can’t stand on the FACTS nor do they offer any REALISTIC alternatives in the energy space. just EMPTY talking points. An industry that is foundational to our modern existence and the MILLIONS of dedicated employees worldwide need better representation. Much like our troops in Vietnam, they deserve better than this “spew”… :
They are suing the energy companies for not telling us what they knew about Global Warming — that it was a sham! Exxon should have told us this a long time ago!
What are they worried about? Global Warming stopped 20 years ago even though CO2 has kept going up. Therefore, CO2 does not control the world’s temperature.
Is CO2 dangerous? No! No! a thousand times no. Nuclear submarines operate for months at a time (under water) with CO2 at 8000 ppm, 20x our current level of 410 ppm. Without CO2, there would be no plants, no food, and no life on this planet. Is that the goal of the “Back to Cavers?”
