Conservative political consultant Ari Fleischer slammed the Democrats’ relentless and futile efforts to ‘transition’ to a green economy Tuesday, noting that the Party is increasingly seeking to appeal to extreme left-wing radicals only. [bold, links added]
Commenting on the so-called ‘Inflation Reduction Act’, Fleischer asserted “I don’t see how this is a political winner for the Democrats unless they are counting on the left-wing base of the party that just thinks the world is going to end in 12 years.”
He added, “I guess we are down to 10 or 8. For them, there no longer sitting on their hands getting out to vote because of the hundreds of billions of subsidies that are going to causes that I suppose they support.”
Fleischer further stated that “this bill really should be named the Raise Taxes And Push The Economy Deeper Into Recession Act.”
“I have never in my entire career heard of somebody who thinks it’s good public policy to raise taxes here as the nation is entering a recession,” Fleischer explained, adding
“That prolongs recessions, that doesn’t stimulate the economy, that doesn’t give you the help that you need, it makes things worse.”
“And why? For what is essentially corporate welfare,” Fleischer continued, labeling Democrat Joe Manchin a “mini-Green New Dealer.”
“This is a gigantic spending bill to give money to green corporate welfare and that’s what so much of the green industry has grown up into,” he further declared, adding that:
“Without subsidies, they would never be competitive, they would never exist … The more subsidies you give them, the more they are hooked on government.”

If wind & solar had to compete in electricity markets on a level playing field (not bogus levelized cost of electricity), Mr. Fleischer is correct. They would not exist. I’m in favor of eliminating ALL taxpayer subsidies amongst energy producers. Now, if entities get tax DEDUCTIONS and accelerated depreciation for capital expenditures using (risking) shareholder money, I say ALL GOOD! That is equal treatment with every other manufacturer in the U.S. Oh, and throw in the cost of transmission and paying a share of the needed “back-up” thermal generation (primarily natural gas & some coal) tor the 70% of the time “renewables” are idle, then we have a LEVEL playing field & fair market structure. Sad truth is by spending $300 Billion on “green energy,” you are only continuing to distort the market and drive electricity prices HIGHER. Instead of continuing wasting money on industrial wind & solar, why not take that money & allocate it to modular nuclear & FUSION? Those are the clean, scalable & sustainable energy sources of the future and will drive an energy transition…
Randy, I agree. The free market is works wonders in determining what should survive and what shouldn’t. One detail in your comment may be misinterpreted by those that are not as well informed. Nuclear fusion is far from being economical feasible and unfortunately is still mostly experimental. Allocating money for nuclear fusion would mean funding to bring this great energy source to reality.
David, I agree that fusion is decades away from commercial development. It won’t happen in my remaining lifetime. I think we both realize that Europe & the Chinese (and Russians) are putting in a more concerted effort than the U.S on fusion research. I’d just like to see the “fixation” with wind, solar & battery storage toned down. In the long run, intermittent, dilute & inefficient electricity sources are not the “wave of the future.” Let’s put our emphasis and R & D efforts into sources that show real promise RATHER than continuing to line the pockets of politically favored sources. It will be a long race to get fusion commercial. We have to get INTO the race first…
I’ll qualify one other thing. When I refer to wind & solar in all my comments, I’m talking about industrial scale wind & solar. I have a rooftop solar array on my home, so I think residential solar with the right application has significant promise as a supplemental electricity source.
