A Twitter account claiming to represent an Extinction Rebellion (XR) chapter in the East Midlands tweeted last week that the ‘Earth is healing. The air and water are clearing. Corona is the cure. Humans are the disease!’
The post also showed stickers with the same slogan posted on a lamppost.
The tweet and the account were denounced by a number of official XR accounts, which accused far-right groups of putting up the offending stickers and setting up a fake account. The account has since been suspended by Twitter.
Given much of the rhetoric of XR’s activists, spokespeople and supporters, it is hardly surprising that the tweet and posters were widely taken as a legitimate XR campaign.
Indeed, as broadcaster Andrew Neil has pointed out, the ‘fake’ East Midlands account was followed by several XR accounts that are known to be genuine.
Extreme, controversial and anti-human views are nothing new for the Extinction Rebellion.
For instance, XR co-founder Stuart Basden says that the movement ‘isn’t about the climate.’
Rather, it aims to dismantle the ‘cruelty and violence’ of ‘600 years of colonialism’ conducted by ‘European civilization’, and its delusions of ‘patriarchy’, ‘white supremacy’, and ‘heteronormativity’.
Another XR co-founder, Roger Hallam, says that ‘forcing governments to act’ or ‘bringing them down’ in order to enact its policies will require ‘some to die in the process’.
What’s more, the wider environmental movement has tried to connect climate change to COVID-19.
For instance, Greta Thunberg says the widespread suspension of economic activity to slow the coronavirus pandemic shows her demands for instantaneous preventative action against climate change are possible.
Lots of environmentalists have also celebrated the fact that air pollution and CO2 levels have plummeted because of quarantine measures against coronavirus.
Whether the XR sticker or East Midlands Twitter account is real or not, it is hardly surprising that so many recognized its anti-human message.

Such views of humanity and the planet are not new; In medieval and later times, bands of appropriately dressed penitents were in the towns and streets condemning humanity for its sins, with coming doom as punishment. Since in the modern world there is little real spiritual dimension, such pseudo religious drives are inevitable. It fils a void in their lives: they cannot”save” themselves, so the want to “save” the planet. “Man must and will have a religion” said Blake: anything will do. XR needs a good mirror to look into it.

I read elsewhere that the CO2 levels being monitored in Hawaii are holding steady – no rise or drop. Cleaner air yes – fewer aerosols. dust, oxides of nitrogen etc, but carbon dioxide holding steady.

Leaders of the Extinction Rebellion are denying statements that are supposed to be coming from that group about celebrating the death toll of the coronavirus. Yet, their admitted goal is to destroy Western Civilization. The resulting food shortages alone would kill millions. Having hundreds of thousands or millions die from the coronavirus is very consistent with the organization’s goals.

Isn’t it more than a bit odd that these XR leaders (and most members based on photos of them) are against the “White Supremacy” and “European Colonialism” are in fact white Europeans. And they are also against the “Patriarchy” where again most of the leaders are all male. Why isn’t it the black and brown people who are supposedly the victims of this White Colonial Patriarchy the ones leading such an organization?
Steve, it is a matter of guilt. The white males leading the Extinction Rebellion feel guilt due to their warped view of what their race and gender has done.
My exact thought. They need to lead by example.
If only! But they all deem themselves much too important while we are considered the expendable ones.
If they hate humans so bad and claim that humans are the disease for the planet.
Why don’t they step out first? Leave the planet? Take one for the team? Show us how it is done?
