EU Commissioner Miguel Arias Cañete has given up on plans to officially raise the European Union’s 2030 climate target.
Contrary to what has been announced, Cañete has not submitted the proposal to the EU member states, the German Press Agency in Brussels has learned.
The idea was met with opposition by, among others, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the German industry. Other EU countries also rejected it. —Deutsche Press Agentur, 28 September 2018

For the nations stupid enough to take serious action on anthropological climate change, there appears to be stages. The first stage is to make radical changes in the power grid. This results in power becoming very expensive and often unreliable. The economy is damaged due to the extra costs, and companies leave to relocate where the power is cheaper. Families are hard hit and often can not heat their home adequately and some have their power cut off because they can’t afford the new higher rates.
These consequences then feed back and the desire to take climate action is reduced. This is what was shown by Europe not increasing the goals for 2030.
The last state in this process has already begun as nations start to rely less on renewable and go back to fossil fuels. This will be a slow process involving small steps.
As I have said many times, the environmental left is incapable of learning from others if the lesson means backing off from their political agenda. As such we can expect states like California to go through steps on climate change action. In the process they will harm many families and do a great deal of harm to their economy.
