The District of Columbia chapter of the Sunrise Movement, a radical group of climate change activists, announced Wednesday that it would not participate in a local voting rights rally because of the involvement of “Zionist” groups.
In a statement, which is now “protected” from view on Twitter, but remains archived, Sunrise DC announced that it was refusing to speak at the rally due to the participation of a number of Zionist organizations.”
It specified: “This [sic] includes the Jewish Council on Public Affairs, the National Council of Jewish Women, and the Religious Action Center of Reform Judaism, which are all in alignment with and in support of Zionism and the State of Israel.”
The statement went on to state a number of false claims about Israel, including the claim that it occupies Gaza, which is run by the Hamas terrorist group.
It also urged the voting rights group, the Declaration for American Democracy, to expel the Jewish pro-Israel groups.
Zionism is the belief in the right of Jewish people to self-determination in the historic land of Israel.
It is the founding idea of the State of Israel; to be anti-Zionist is to deny Israel’s right to exist.
Given the fact that the State of Israel has been a refuge for millions of Jews in the aftermath of the Holocaust, including those fleeing new waves of persecution, anti-Zionism is virtually synonymous with antisemitism, in effect if not also in intent — especially when Israel is signed out for criticism.
There are Jewish groups on the left and on the right who support Israel, though left-wing groups are more critical lately.
The Times of Israel reported that the Anti-Defamation League said that Sunrise DC’s stance was simple antisemitism.
The Sunrise Movement has been prominent in supporting the Green New Deal favored by many Democrats in Congress.

Long before there were Jewish “terrorist” groups, Arab Muslims were massacring and attacking Jews, going back to the Hebron massacre in 1929. Prior to 1948, the Jews purchased all of the land they came to own from Turkish and other owners, often absentee landlords who sold what they viewed as worthless land at exorbitant prices to the Jews. The Palestinians owned very little land, they were almost entirely living on land owned by others in an almost feudal lifestyle. It’s a myth that there was a “Palestinian” people who owned land and lived a peaceful, mostly agrarian lifestyle. Instead, most of the so called Palestinians are from Egypt, Syria and other Muslim countries who came to the Mandate when they saw how the Jews were developing the land they owned. The UN determined that they did not have a solution to the Jewish/Arab problem, so they took a “Solomon” approach and tried to divide the land into a Jewish country and a Muslim country. The Jews took what they could and created Israel while the Muslims rejected the offer – as usual, they never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity. This looks a bit like Zionist propaganda confronting anti-Zionist action. It is not true to assert Israel is the homeland of the Jews, by some 2,000 year old religious land claim the Emperor Hadrian firmly removed from the Jews by conquest. Palestine was taken over by the violence and terrorism of the minority Zionist terror groups such as the Irgun and Hagana, who murdered many British soldiers and ran a campaign of ethnic cleansing of Palestinians and their land , that Paletsinians had owned for centuries, by force of arms. They lost ot 2,000 years ago, but there extreme religion didn’t want to integrate with the cultures of the countries they moved to. I have no truck with delusional activists of any sort, BUT because they are anti zionist as well, doesn’t mean you can use the excuse to publish such a deceitful whitewash of the Zionist apartheid state of Israel. Israel as it has been created, and continues to act, is a vicious racist state that has plundered the lands that were rightfully owned by Palestinians by military and other force. In reality Zionist Israel as it is now is the boil on the backside of the Middle East, and certainly NOT something any decent realist with a scientific approach to the facts should support. How is this in any was acceptable to the so called Democracies of the West, clearly NOT secular, all done in the name of a separatist religion to justify murder, ethnic cleansing, apartheid politics and denial of the freedoms of the Palestinians over 50 years of military occupation. Climate science is not a place to support one bunch of nasty people over another, it is a place to discuss what the evidence can prove. Not much of that above.
