Climate alarmists have warned that a Trump reelection could mean America becoming a “failed state” as well as the possible “extinction” of the human race.
If Trump is not elected, “it won’t make me stop worrying about climate change; it will still be horribly hard to address,” says climate scientist Jane Long, of the Environmental Defense Fund.
“But if he’s elected, the human race is not immune from extinction. You could make a bunch of really bad decisions and wipe out a whole lot of life.”
A string of alarmists’ apocalyptic predictions ranging from the destruction of the planet to the abolition of democracy was collected by James Temple, senior editor for energy at MIT Technology Review, and published Thursday under the title “Climate scientists are terrified of a second Trump term.”
Another climate scientist, Ken Caldeira of the Carnegie Institution, wondered aloud about America’s future as a democratic state.
“Well, first of all, there’s the question of ‘Will the US become a dictatorial, totalitarian regime?’” he asked.
“There’s no climate policy angle to that story. The United States is then a failed state,” Danny Cullenward of Stanford’s law school warned, adding his voice to legions of others who see Donald Trump heralding the end of days.
If Trump wins, Mr. Temple predicts, “subsequent Supreme Court or federal court rulings could cement any number of the White House’s regulatory policies and establish precedents in environmental law that could last for decades.”
“Trump announced plans to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement during his early months as president and will be able to officially do so in early November,” Temple warns.
“If he’s reelected, what may have been excused as an aberration in America politics will instead look to the rest of the world like the permanent loss of any US leadership on the issue.”
Time magazine joined in the hand-wringing with its own piece last Monday.
“Trump’s environmental agenda has consisted largely of undoing rules and regulations created under President Barack Obama, from a rollback of vehicle emissions standards to a nixing of emissions rules for power plants to the departure from the Paris Agreement, the landmark global deal aimed at combating climate change,” Time lamented.
“Trump’s relentless attacks could be wholly or partially undone by a new administration and Congress,” echoed Inside Climate News earlier this month. “But for now, Trump has accomplished his mission: a near-total elimination of his predecessor’s most significant measures.”
“The US is on the brink of a calamity,” Temple concludes in his article Thursday. “It’s one short step away from self-inflicted crises from which the nation and the climate may well never recover.”

Isn’t dictatorial regime what climate science wants so it can dictate climate action and renewables?
The human race has never been immune to extinction, nor shall we ever be.
Solar panels, wind power generators and Biden as President will never make any difference to that.
Always amazing how the words “scientists say” and “science” now take on magic meaning, the word almost of God, which cannot be challenged. But no such real authority exists, since the scientific method should be based on trial and error and debate and exchange. Scientists are influenced by social and cultural factors, ideas of their day, funding, club” mentality, collective rules, as in so many other ways in societies. Also science is based on the observer not being separate from the observed. Scientific concepts evolve and even change radically down the years and centuries. And computers are not prophets. GIGO.
He bought it so he can watch the seas rise by six feet, and, as Clive James put it, watch the fishes swim past his windows. He also said in his campaign for election, vote for him and the seas would not rise. They voted for him. The seas did not rise. Such is the power of politicians.
If Al Gore the Bore was so concerned about Global Warming/Climate Change he would live in Grass Hut and walk to all his little meetings and row a boat over seas to get to some doings in another country and DiCaprio would retire from Hollywood and live ona Mountain Top
I’d argue that if JOE BIDEN is elected, that our Constitutional Republic and unique democratic processes are in FAR GREATER danger. How can I support that statement? Take about two hours this weekend & “skim through” the Democratic Convention platform (92 pages)and the “Democratic Select Committee on the Climate Crisis ” (263 pages) for starters. If you need more data, just pull up the House Resolution known as the “Green New Deal” (12 pages) or go back and analyze clips from the Democratic debates & recent comments from Senate Democrats (i.e. Shumer & Markey) and I think most rational adults will reach a similar conclusion. When Democrats accuse Trump of “totalitarianism” and a threat to democracy, I’d say it looks more like a PROJECTION. When folks in the Democratic party are advocating elimination of the Senate Filibuster, packing the Supreme Court, eliminating the electoral college, adding States (DC & Puerto Rico)& stifling ANY legitimate debate on climate science, I’d say THEY are a lot more of a danger to the American democratic process, freedom of expression & individual liberty. Trump has MANY flaws and quite frankly, I find his demeanor entirely objectionable. That said, I like the Democratic platform & prospects of Joe Biden spending any meaningful time at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue a LOT LESS…
Such desperate longing for a crisis that never comes. We are the best fed, longest-living, most prosperous human beings that have ever lived on this planet. CO2 is the basic ingredient of life on earth. All life dies without it. All of the carbon in the carbon-based lifeforms that are life on earth comes from it. All of the oxygen in our atmosphere was generated by photosynthetic single-celled organisms in an atmosphere with CO2 at levels nearly twenty times that of today. And CO2 driven photosynthesis continually replenishes O2 as it must do for the animal part of life to exist. CO2 has been naturally declining for the entire evolution of multicellular life – the 600 million year Phanerozoic. Down from 7000ppm to near lethally low levels of our ongoing Pleistocene/Holocene ice age. A little more CO2 from our abysmally low levels, has greened the planet by as much as 30%. A little more CO2 is shrinking deserts by making life stronger and requiring fewer stomata. A little more CO2 is making food production far greater and breaking a string of world record crop yields. A little more CO2 has been a Godsend. While climate fools indoctrinate another generation of schoolchildren that nonsensically believe the world is going to end in twelve years. They’ve been saying that and failing for thirty years! Such a self-imposed dystopic vision – in the midst of the greatest abundance in human history.
Mr Obama, is so concerned about climate change that he bought a multimillion dollar home on the water front. He must worry every night – will he be underwater by morning?.
it’s all connected
Race and Climate Justice
And insanity too surely
