Hollywood star Cate Blanchett is reportedly joining forces with mega-polluter Amazon to launch a podcast devoted to discussing climate change.
The series, which has received a two-season order on Audible, will also feature climate activist Danny Kennedy as co-host.
Amazon ranks among the world’s biggest polluters, producing more carbon emissions than some small countries.
Last year, the e-commerce giant reported an absolute global carbon footprint for 2020 of 60 million metric tonnes – nearly 20 percent more than the prior year.
The company’s carbon footprint is larger than those of Switzerland and Ireland.
But no matter: Blanchett’s Audible podcast promises to get to the heart of what the star called our “eco-anxiety.”
“We hope that our listeners enjoy hearing the conversations as much as we have enjoyed having them,” the actress said in a statement to Deadline, which first reported the news.
Deadline reported the podcast will feature uplifting stories about what is being done to address climate change.
Blanchett stars in Netflix’s climate-change satire Don’t Look Up, in which she plays the vapid co-host of a network morning show.
In a recent interview with Porter, the digital outlet of Net-A-Porter, the two-time Oscar-winning star said people are insufficiently concerned about global warming.
“Everyone is trying to be positive, talking about 1.5 degrees of global warming. But 1.5 would still be disastrous,” she told the outlet. “We need to be fucking scared… and demand change; be collectively courageous enough to face that fear and do something about it.”
In her native Australia, the actress has faced criticism for her climate change activism. Some politicians dubbed her “Carbon Cate” after she appeared in a commercial in 2011 advocating for a carbon tax being pushed by green activists.
Critics accused Cate Blanchett of hypocrisy, noting her carbon footprint as a globetrotting celebrity.
They also pointed out her close professional association with automaker Audi, which was a major corporate sponsor of the Sydney Theatre Company, where she was serving as co-artistic director at the time.

China and Inde are two of the worlds biggist polluters
I still laugh whenever I hear anybody make reference to an average global temperature. As I believe Richard Lindzen of MIT said: it’s about as meaningful as the average global telephone number. There’s just no way to get a good gauge of it and any average temperature has relevance only to the locality in which it is measured.
Meanwhile, I also have to shake my head whenever I read the words “carbon pollution” in the context of greenhouse-gas and climate forcing. While it is true that carbon can be a pollutant, especially in its sooty, dirty forms, this term is typically a lazy reference to carbon dioxide, which is a completely different substance. Carbon dioxide is NOT in any way a pollutant, unless it enters the lungs of a creature in high levels of concentration. Even then, it does not pollute, but rather robs the body of its ability to absorb oxygen from the atmosphere. If Amazon is guilty of being a high-level emitter of CO2 (carbon dioxide), rather than C (carbon), then I applaud their contributions to helping sustain life on this planet. Keep it up!
I’m a big fan Cate. But you and the rest of climate delusional and fearmongering Hollywood are spreading fear and lies about things you don’t understand. I’m a lifelong farmer with a B.Sc. Advanced (biology) degree. I’ve had a lifelong fascination with climate because our farm is in a glacial meltwater valley called Eagle Creek. I’m disgusted that schoolchildren are being indoctrinated to fear that their lives will be cut short based on the delusional lie that CO2 drives climate. It doesn’t. CO2 drives life. It is insignificant in climate. It is a follower, not a cause of temperature change. Eight hundred thousand years of ice core data make that undeniably clear. CO2 goes up and down with temperature because CO2 solubility is temperature based. Life on earth is carbon based. Life, all life, is composed of little carbon sacks of water called cells. Every single species. The most abundant elements in our bodies are oxygen (from cellular water) and carbon (from CO2). We are ALL MADE FROM CO2 through the most important biochemical process in life on earth – photosynthesis. It literally IS WHY WE CALL THE ENVIRONMENT GREEN. (green pigmented enzyme chlorophyll) Its formula is sunlight plus CO2 plus water (H2O) produces all of life’s carbon, all of life’s energy, and all of our atmosphere’s oxygen. And life’s most important ingredient molecule CO2 has been dangerously declining from fertile levels more than twenty times today’s levels at life’s birth. Declining to within 30ppm of the beginning of the death of all things during glacial phases of our current ongoing Pleistocene Ice Age. Which has the COLDEST range of temperatures since multicellular life began nearly six hundred million years ago. AND we remain well within the normal, natural range of temperatures of the glacial/interglacial twelve degree C Milankovitch Eccentricity driven cycle. And well within the interglacial cycle within a cycle Dr. Judith Curry calls Eddy cycles, whose four degree warming and cooling cycle lasts nine hundred years. Meaning we have been through the same cycle that has been warming our planet more than three hundred times since our current ice age began. Of the hundreds of times that our planet has warmed before in this same exact temperature range, the latest warming 450 year half of the cycle is just decades away from its warmest peak. After which our planet will cool four degrees C for the next 450 years. Our energy based civilization is powered 85% from coal, oil, and gas. When we use it to make us the best fed, longest living, most prosperous human beings that have ever existed, we recycle the dangerously low levels of life essential CO2. And unless you believe that life infests earth, CO2 is definately NOT pollution. It is as important as water for life on earth. More of it makes our ‘environment’ greener, stronger, more drought tolerant, and more abundant. So much so that food supplies are massively increasing and deserts are shrinking. CO2 is a fertilizer, not a pollutant. Whoever is advising you has no idea what they are talking about.
A gem Barry. You’ve done your homework. I never watched a second of Star Prick as my brother called it. I was always beaming up ‘carbon lifeforms.’
Cheers
The sad thing that really matters is there most likely won’t be any intelligent climate debate. Regrettably, this is just another platform for “advocacy” and you won’t have any qualified climate scientists whose voices will be allowed that don’t align with the “Climate Crisis.” As the latest example, look no further than Joe Rogan saga. He has a THREE HOUR interview with a qualified scientist, Robert Malone, one of the pioneers in mRNA research & long time vaccine developer who questions aspects of the COVID “science” and Rogan is deserving of being “de-platformed.” Really? I’d humbly suggest that the only “misinformation” these days appears to be the opinions of those that DISAGREE with the activist narrative…
