The liberal police are yelling “racist” once again, but this time it’s about trucks.
According to the California Air Resources Board (CARB), clean air is racist.

(CARB) stated that the state is considering new regulations to ban the sale of all diesel semi-trucks by 2040 to fight climate change and to amend a history of “racist” practice.
CARB believes that the large freight trucks should be banned because the diesel emissions that are excreted from them “disproportionately affect low-income and minority communities due to racist zoning policies.”
This is yet just another example of Democrats playing the race card.
Not only that, they are ignoring the downsides to the economic loss by implementing the new rules.
“Decades of racist and classist practices, including redlining and siting decisions, have concentrated heavy-duty vehicle and freight activities in these communities, with concomitant disproportionate pollution burdens… CARB has legal and moral obligations to lessen these burdens,” the regulators stated.
CARB also claimed that Black and Latino communities are most at harm since the trucks give off a significant amount of pollution.
“Black and Latino populations experiencing significantly greater air pollution impacts than white populations,” CARB said, adding that “communities in and around ports move much of the nation’s freight, and so experience pollution on a national scale in their neighborhoods.”
The proposal would require medium and heavy-duty trucks that enter ports and rail yards to be fully electric by the year 2035, as well as state and local government vehicle fleets to go fully electric by 2027.

The real reason for mandating the conversion to electric trucks is the California Air Resources Board has bought into the climate change fraud. The given racist reason is just an added excuse to further justify their action. The increased price of energy due to action on climate change is the real racist impact on those communities because they are the least able to afford it.
California’s power grid often operates on the verge of collapse. A full charge of a semi truck takes 30 times as much power as is used by Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara on game day.
Charging time is also an issue. With the current charging stations a semi truck takes four hours to charge. New stations would have to be built at great expense that could cut the time from 90 minutes to two hours depending on the truck. The range is 350 to 500 miles if the battery is new. A diesel truck can go 1000 miles on a tank and take 10 to 15 minutes to fill up.
There are other issues. The hills are so steep into and out of the port of Oakland that trucks need to start with a full charge in each direction. There are other very steep roads such as the Grape Vine the on I-5.
The California Air Resources Board has no cost data. They made the general statement that their proposed mandate would save operators money in the long run because the maintenance cost of electric vehicles is less. If this was true no mandate would be needed. They ignored the horrendous cost of replacing the batteries which added to the very expensive cost of a new electric truck makes their mandate extremely expensive. Their proposed mandate applies to all trucks operating in California even if they are from other states.
California has no plans that would result in real increases to the capacity of its power grid. The people who make such mandates are so radical that it is unlikely they will back off when blackouts become common. The politics in California are so dysfunctional that it is unlikely that these people will be replaced.
