Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg warned on Wednesday that the country is ‘running out of time’ to do something about climate change as a record heat wave sweeps the United States.
Buttigieg got into a back-and-forth on climate change during an interview with CNBC’s Joe Kernen, who questioned the transportation secretary about what President Joe Biden could do to give Americans relief during the heat wave. [bold, links added]
A ‘heat dome’ is landing on the United States on Wednesday with the ‘dangerous’ heatwave hitting highs of 118 degrees.
More than 265 million people will be at risk, with a third of the American population being issued excessive heat warnings. It follows record high temperatures in Europe this week.
‘There are real possibilities that people might not have air conditioning during a heat wave,’ Kernen said during the interview and asked: ‘How do you declare a climate crisis in the middle of an actual weather crisis?‘

‘This is what a transition looks like. This is exactly the challenge we’re living through,’ Buttigieg responded, adding that ‘we’re running out of time’ when it comes to climate change.
Kernen also pressed Buttigieg on how Biden could meet his goal of achieving a 50-52 percent reduction from 2005 levels in greenhouse gases.
‘We changed the climate between 2010 and now, and not in a good way,’ Buttigieg pointed out.
‘It’s a question of how many lives and how many livelihoods are going to be destroyed by allowing the worst effects of climate change to happen,’ he added.
Biden on Wednesday will warn members of Congress that if they don’t take action to combat climate change then he will.
The ultimatum will come during the president’s trip to Massachusetts, where he will visit Brayton Point Power Station – New England’s largest coal plant, which is being transformed into a factory producing cables for offshore wind farms.
Biden will ‘make clear’ that climate change is an ‘existential threat to our nation and to the world. And he will also make clear that since Congress is not going to act on this emergency, then he will,’ a White House official said.
But the president will stop short of declaring a national emergency on Wednesday, which would unlock federal resources to deal with the issue, despite heavy pressure from members of his party to do so.
‘The climate emergency is not going to happen tomorrow, but we still have it on the table,’ White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said at Tuesday’s daily press briefing. ‘I don’t have a date circled in the calendar.’

July 4, 2022 Moore: Biden’s Green New Deal Is Increasing Greenhouse Gases
Here’s an amazing but true statistic. After more than a decade of declining carbon emissions here in the United States, in 2021, President Joe Biden’s first year in office, emissions rose.

Like the simultaneous heatwaves in China, Europe and the United States?
It’s the middle of July.
The heatwave vanished in the UK with highs in London of 75F. Guess the climate crisis has ended.
If Joe Mumbles and Pete Butt have Americans best interests at heart, they’ll keep the generating stations humming. Diversity of fuel sources results in a stable grid.
But they do not care about you. They’re too busy creating crises to exploit.
And energy poverty kills 300 times the number of people the climate ever has. If the left wants to lead, they might consider doing their energy and climate homework.
