The Biden administration has pledged millions of dollars to a de facto international “climate reparations” fund at the United Nations (UN) climate summit in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The fund, referred to by its proponents as a “loss and damage fund,” is intended to have developed countries transfer money to the developing world as compensation for the impacts of climate change. [emphasis, links added]
The U.S. promised more than $17 million to the fund on Thursday, according to Axios.
Numerous energy industry experts previously told the Daily Caller News Foundation amounts to a “climate reparations” program that redistributes wealth from the West to the Third World in a “global shakedown.”
“We’ve delivered history today. The first time a decision has been adopted on day 1 of any COP. And the speed in which we have done so is also historic.

The fund will be administered by the World Bank on an interim basis, according to Axios.
In addition to the American pledge of $17.5 million, the U.K. pledged $75 million, the UAE and Germany each offered $100 million and the European Union pledged 200 million Euros.
The U.S. has repeatedly emphasized that all payments into the fund are voluntary and therefore are not an admission of legal liability, according to Axios.
It is unclear whether these pledged payments will be made in full, or whether taxpayer dollars will be used; private dollars or more innovative funding mechanisms may be used.
Notably, China is not considered a developed nation by the UN, even though the country is by far the world’s leading emitter and second-largest economy.

China exempt – now there’s a surprise!
There is more information coming out of COP 28 this early in the conference than in the past. One is the endorsement of the concept of including food in their climate change national agendas. The resolution has been criticized for lacking detail, but I’m sure that will follow. One item is to address what people eat. We will probably find the UN assuming the role of trying to tell us what we can and can not eat. There are a lot of pressure groups of non-elected people trying to influence the out come. In addition to controlling what we eat, there is pressure about using less pesticides and fertilizer. The impact will be to drive up prices.
They are going to have to pry the bacon and steaks out of my cold dead fingers. No insects in my diet.
One part of what COP 28 is trying to do with agriculture is reduce the use of pesticides. This makes no sense what so ever and would result in an increase in emissions. If in addition to feeding people we are also feeding a massive number of bugs, more land is required, and more fuel for machinery. This is a perfect example of an agenda that can’t make it on its own merit hitchhiking on the climate change movement. It is an objective of some liberals so it was included in climate change goals. However, this agenda would actually increase emissions.
The US was sharply criticized for the size of the contribution in comparison to other nations. However, even the smaller $17.5 million probably wouldn’t be approved by Congress. Larger amounts by other nations wouldn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell to make it through congress. The expectation for years has been that the US should pay one third of the total.
Vice President Kamala Harris at COP 28 announced $3 billion of new funding from the US for the Green Climate Fund. This certainly sounds good to the extremists attending this conference. They will leave the conference feeling good about the pledge. However, we can be sure this does not sound good to most members of Congress who must vote to approve the funding.
