Sky News host Chris Kenny says Australia’s increased energy costs are forcing citizens to freeze as part of the government’s quest to “fight global warming.”
“We are an energy-rich nation, endowed with enormous fossil fuel resources, enough to make us the largest exporter of coal and gas in the world, yet we choose, make no mistake, it is not fate, it is our choice, we choose to make ourselves energy poor,” he said.
Mr. Kenny said this has led Australians to suffer energy shortages in the face of “severe cold, not severe heat”, and there is enough to heat the nation.
“Cheap, reliable energy is the very foundation of our economy, the very foundation of our prosperity, our health, education, innovation, and all the rest depend on it,” he said. “Pretending that natural disasters are already getting worse, well, that is alarmist and deceptive speculation.”
Our comments (above) have strayed off the subject of Chris Kenny’s article which is about energy generation and on this topic, we have similar problems to our American friends.
For decades, we have been ignoring the importance of coal fired power stations and that’s caused owners to defer maintenance and others to close down all together. Today, we are running out of electricity because the new renewable equipment that’s destroyed the beauty of our countryside, isn’t replacing (electricity) what we have been loosing.
What’s well understood today, is that renewables don’t produce at night, on cloudy or windless days and therein lies a huge problem. Building more wind or solar farms won’t fix it, nor will massive (fire prone) batteries. To add fuel to the fire (sarc) our government is subsidising wind and solar farms while coal power gets zip. The only income they receive is when their electricity is taken into the grid. Renewable electricity gets priority and payment flows regardless of what they put into the grid.
This is why wealthy elites (I like the term carpetbaggers) are heavily invested in renewable power generation. They cannot lose. It is a money making heaven.
Now, it’s early June and winter is upon us like never before. Demand for electricity is huge and the system is teetering. Large industrial consumers are asked to cut back and that’s bad for those industries and to make this situation even more embarrassing, coal supplies to some of our coal power stations is hard to get because so much of what we produce is exported. Who would believe this? Coal power station owners haven’t entered contracts to buy coal because they aren’t making money and it seems everyone hates them anyway… !!
The rubber hits the road down-under today. Energy ministers are meeting to cobble together a scheme to get us out of this mess. This 70+ year old isn’t optimistic that these incompetents can achieve anything to solve this problem which some of them caused by meddling in the energy sector in the first place.
The General rule should be is to stop electing Liberals and Liberal Democrats to office quit listening to the M.S. Media Bottom Dwellers Biden is a example of why we need to stop electing Liberal Democrats or at least stop them from stealing the election like Biden did
… and the only people with guns are the government enforcers. Sorry Aussies; you did it to yourselves.
Fortunately that is not the case here in the United States. American civilians own more guns than the combined militaries of the entire world. A large percentage of gun owners will never turn in their guns no matter what laws are passed. Registration of guns sold by professional dealers has been in effect for a long time, but except for recent purchases people can claim to sold their guns to private individuals (such at gun shows) and there is no way to prove otherwise. Change of ownership by inheritance is completely untraceable. I am lucky to live in the US and have my family part of this culture.
Joseph, we don’t see it necessary to have an armed society like the US. You have had problems in your country’s history and I understand that.
On the subject of citizens being armed, there is an argument for select individuals to be trained and armed who are able to ‘blend’ into various situations (like air marshalls) to deal with individuals seeking to harm innocent community members. Police are good but hi-vis and that makes them a target.
Being armed is no guarantee for a peaceful society either. I’m really sadden to see all of the shootings happening in your country. It seems to me that your schools in particular need better security.
The problem with these mass shootings is no one is present with the ability to stop them. With our schools an air marshal approach should be applied. Any teacher who has the desire to do should receive training and be able to carry a concealed weapon at school. The effectiveness of armed individuals has been demonstrated. After the Texas school shooting, in West Virginia a black man was run off after an incident with the children who playing outside. The man returned later with a rifle and attempted to shoot up a party. A woman was there with a concealed weapon permit and a gun and she shot him. About a year ago in Texas a man attempted to shoot up a church congregation. A firearms instructor was there with a concealed weapon and the assailant was shot.
American civilians will always have guns including those highest on the liberal’s hit list. To improve safety the presences of guns need to be increased. I can legally carry a concealed weapon in 35 states. I need to start doing so.
