Every year, the annual UN climate conference heralds two weeks of intergovernmental pantomime.
Without fail, we are told that time is running out, that it’s one minute to midnight, and that it’s the last chance to save the world from doomsday.
There is an uncanny sense of déjà vu while global CO2 emissions continue to rise relentlessly and with no sign of slowing down. [emphasis, links added]
We at Net Zero Watch have been pointing out for years that every COP passes through the same ritual stages, always ending in ultimate failure.
These green-away weeks have degenerated into a meaningless ritual, which makes the participants feel good about themselves but in practice achieve little or nothing.
This is why we predicted with great confidence many months ago that there would be no breaking of the mold at COP27 and that the great conclave of climate cardinals would end in dismal failure yet again.
And how right we were. From the arrival of the very first delegates, it was just as we said it would be.
Check out our updated history of the annual COP ritual, which shows how Sharm el-Sheikh 2022 has followed exactly the same pattern, exactly the same path to dismal failure as previous COPs did before this year’s talkfest.
After the annual excitement of hopes, hype and circus came the habitual ‘deadlock’ and finally the ‘breakthrough’ when the European Union said it was willing to create a new climate compensation fund … but only on the condition that ‘wealthier developing countries’ contribute too.
Yet the eternal question of who will actually pay the demanded $2trillion p.a. in ‘climate reparations’ has been kicked into next year’s Cop28 when a “transitional committee” will be tasked to “identify and expand sources of funding.”
In other words, the endless search for climate $$trillions will go on for decades to come.
That being the case, we expect the same COP ritual all over again next year at COP28 in the United Arab Emirates.

It is certainly true that the COP meetings have been a failure in reaching an agreement to reduce emissions, at least to the extent desired by the alarmists. However, the graph in the article implies that the failure of the COP meetings is responsible for the continued rise in atmospheric carbon dioxide. This is an unproven assumption. There are other viable explanations. The world has been naturally warming since the end of the Mini Ice Age. Less solubility of carbon dioxide in the water of the oceans at warmer temperatures has been mentioned. However, another item that could be a factor is mud and damp soil. At warmer temperatures the bacteria will be more active and release more carbon dioxide. Perhaps the most viable explanation is volcanic activity. This is not constant. The Antarctic Peninsula has over 500 volcanoes and their activity has been increasing over the past 50 years. Volcanic activity releases huge amounts of carbon dioxide.
Back when they held their Live earth Concert all about this Climate Change load of Malarkey and NBC Network lost s a bundle when the concert was a flop its just like the phony Save the Rainforests campaign Based upon Junk Science and Politics and the Money of course
The final hours of COP27 were a sleep deprived whine-fest. People probably said some things just to get out of there and catch some sleep on their way home. I believe that the resistance to commitment signals back sliding down the road. The worlds largest CO2 producer is the second largest economy ,but China doesn’t want to contribute to the “fund”, insisting it’s an emerging economy. That won’t sit well with the USA or the EU.
