The press and some meteorologists are saying that climate change is “fueling” Hurricane Beryl. [some links added]
But, a close examination of the evidence suggests contrary to the hysteria, making a direct climate link is actually difficult.

Fox Weather this morning: Beryl is now a Category 5 hurricane, “winds over 150 mph”. So I looked at “earth-nullschool” (.net), and the highest wind speed I could find was 80 mph, at sea level. What the heck? So, I asked DuckDuckGo, at what altitude is wind speed determined in a hurricane. Turns out it’s at roughly 7,000 feet. Giving wind speeds at that altitude rather than at sea level really makes it sound scary bad.
One article on the subject pointed out that if you had a 25 story building (250 feet tall) on a waterfront, going from the ground floor to the top of the building would result in a “one category” increase in the hurricane’s rating.
