A spokesman for Arnold Schwarzenegger said the former governor and famous movie actor is still pursuing his options to sue oil companies for “first-degree murder.”
“We’ve had consistent meetings with a team of legal experts who focus on environmental law and ways to sue for pollution, so we have continued those meetings and we’ve definitely made progress,” Daniel Ketchell, a Schwarzenegger spokesman, told Axios on Wednesday.
The statement comes about a year after the moderate Republican governor of California said he hoped to sue fossil fuel companies for contributing to climate change and “killing people” all over the globe.
“I don’t think there’s any difference: If you walk into a room and you know you’re going to kill someone, it’s first-degree murder; I think it’s the same thing with the oil companies,” Schwarzenegger said in March 2018.
The famous bodybuilder, who has publicly called on President Donald Trump to do more to promote clean energy, expressed interest in treating fossil fuels like tobacco, forcing them to include a warning label.
“The tobacco industry knew for years and years and years and decades, that smoking would kill people, would harm people and create cancer, and were hiding that fact from the people and denied it,” he said.
Although a lifelong Republican, Schwarzenegger has become an ardent environmental activist and fossil fuel critic since leaving his gubernatorial post.
The former bodybuilder founded the R20 Regions of Climate Action, an environmental organization that aims to increase the use of renewable energy sources and reduce the world’s carbon emissions.
Schwarzenegger’s activism has led to clashes with the White House, which has organized a wide-scale deregulation effort and made attempts to revive the country’s coal industry.
The famous movie actor publicly rebuked Trump’s decision to withdraw the U.S. from the international Paris climate agreement.
In his most recent climate change project, Schwarzenegger announced he is teaming up with California Democrat Kevin de León in an effort to reduce emissions from cars and trucks.
The two prominent politicians are launching an initiative alongside activists and researchers that will study how local governments can more quickly adopt cleaner transportation options.

Schwarzenegger, AO-C, Bernie, Hillary, blah blah blah blah.
We’re giving them exactly what they want, a reaction. If we really want to put them out of business, change the channel any time they appear.
Schwarzenegger’s spokesman said that they were making progress on preparing for the suits. It is not uncommon for radials that are having discussions with other radicals to come to conclusions normal people would consider ridiculous
In order for an act to be murder there has to be intent to kill. Selling a legal product to customers who absolutely have to have it is not intent to kill. In order for it to be murder someone has to die. With extreme weather events not getting worse no one is dying from climate change. If climate change is doing anything it has saved lives with fewer hurricanes and tornadoes.
The climate change movement on the other hand has caused thousands of deaths. People are dying in the UK every year because they can’t afford the pay the inflated cost of heating their homes caused by the climate change movement. What happens is without adequate heat they die of disease. If any law suits should be filled, it should be against the climate change movement for causing the price of power to be inflated.
As I type this I’m looking out the window at snow. Remember snow, the stuff that children were not going to know what it was. Our property is totally covered with snow. This is the second weekend in March!
Arnold Schwarzenegger started out as a soccer goalie. He said that he switched to bodybuilding because he didn’t have to depend on team mates to win. He is the most successful bodybuilder ever.
Now he’s Concensus Man. What happened, Arnold? Hotel California Syndrome?
I think he’s angling for a Lifetime Achievement Oscar. I can see it…
“You weally, weally, weally like me!”
I had no idea Arnold drove a electric HUMMER .
Yes sue away hypocrite . Does that mean if you use a legally available fuel you consider to be a murder weapon you are then a murderer for combusting the fuel .
Sort of like owning a gun , buying ammo which on their own have not harmed anyone , then you decide to pull the trigger and shoot someone .
Yeah blame the gun manufacturer and the ammo company . Accuse them of murder .
Good luck believers . Get the mental health support you need . Maybe sue the steroid companies for screwing with brain cells too while you are at it .
No wonder California is F!@#ed !
Is the new thing to be as stupid as possible to get attention ?
Amber, it is interesting that compared what Arnold Schwarzenegger is doing to firearms. At one time firearm manufactures where being sued for injuries and murders committed by their legal products. In very liberal jurisdictions such as New York City the industry lost some of those suits. Just as with climate change, the real intent of these suits was to bankrupt the firearms industry. This insanity was ended when a law was passed on the federal level making such suits illegal. Just to show how low her ethics are, when running for president Clinton said she wanted to repeal the law.
The concept they are using is identical to suing breweries for drunk driving deaths.
What sort of nonsense is this sue the Oil Companies just to line the pockets of a bunch of Greedy Lawyers? BIG DUMB BARARIAN NOT LISTEN TO NEEDLE,NEEDLE SAY YOU ARE DUMB
That lawsuit should last approximately 15 seconds in the courts. But they will appeal and as long as Arnie keeps picking up the legal tab, the lawyers will keep putting up a fight.
Arnold is an imbecile
Someone should tell Arnie that you don’t smoke CO2, and that it does not cause cancer.
