Democratic state senator Juan Mendez (Ariz.) on Monday called for Arizona to adopt provisions of the Green New Deal because he wants to be “part of the generation that kills golf” and the “greedy parts of the agriculture business industry.”
Mendez participated in a press conference on “Earth Day” with Democrats and environmental activists, where he touted his support for the Green New Deal.
“I’d rather be part of the generation that kills golf and self-interested, greedy parts of the agriculture business industry than the one that killed the planet,” Mendez said, starting at 16:33.
“I have no concern for just one industry’s future. I’m here to protect our shared future, and that does not have to include alfalfa just because it’s a safe market choice and has high yields.”
“I believe the Green New Deal and water policy that protects the environment and puts the health and well-being of our communities first is the framework that we need to get our state working toward protecting our planet,” Mendez continued.
Mendez wasn’t the only Arizona Democrat who used the Earth Day press conference to tout the Green New Deal. Jamescita Peshlakai, the State Senate Minority Whip, compared climate change to the Cold War starting at 3:47.
“Our children of this generation—The greatest anxiety is climate change … It was the Cold War. It was nuclear war, nuclear winter. Now for our children, it is global warming. Here in Arizona we can and should take actions to embrace provisions in the Green New Deal,” Peshlakai said.
The Green New Deal is a 14-page economic stimulus resolution that was released in February by self-described democratic socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D., N.Y.) and Sen. Ed Markey (D., Mass.) that aims to fight income inequality and climate change.
The American Action Forum study offered an estimate in February of the Green New Deal costing up to $94.4 trillion, or over $600,000 per household in the United States.

David’s mention of nuclear winter reminds of the 60’s, when we were told to stop eating snow. Atmospheric testing of nuclear bombs was thought to make snow radioactive.
Though my home town is Klamath Falls, at the time we were living in California. We always visited my grandparents who lived north of Klamath Falls for Christmas. One year there was a great snow fall. My parents wouldn’t let my sister and myself play in the snow for fear of radiation in it from the nuclear testing done by the Soviet Union.
Will the supply of climate fools spouting ever rising idiocy ever end? How does anyone get this crazy? 95% of real pollution has been eliminated/controlled since 1970 Earth Day. Juan Mendez represents all the lunatics who believe emulating the governments of Cuba and East Germany is a blueprint to “save the planet”!
From the article, “I’d rather be part of the generation that kills golf and self-interested, greedy parts of the agriculture business industry.” This gives insight to his real motivation. He obviously is hostile to the agriculture business industry and his not so hidden agenda is to use the climate change movement to strike at this industry.
The Cold War and nuclear war were real threats in my generation, but it was the act of standing up to the Soviet Union that made these threats go away, which is exactly the opposite of what the liberals wanted to do. Like climate change, nuclear winter was a fraud. Even if there had been a full scale nuclear war, there would have been no nuclear winter. Calculations showed that not enough matterial would have been thrown up to cause it. Like nuclear winter, anthropological climate change is not a threat.
Now it’s golf courses! A green oasis in Arizona cannot be tolerated? It should be admired.
I’ve noticed that retired baby boomers prefer riding Harley’s rather than golf carts. Global Warming doesn’t affect lifestyle decisions. How could it, when there is no sensible evidence that shows Earth really is warming?
Assuming just for a moment for argument’s sake that global warming is real and caused by humans . . . what actually is worse: Living with a varying climate or adopting practices and lifestyle changes that make living on Earth a dreary medieval chore? What actually should we fear about climate change, unless we happen to own coastal property?
