Republicans, conservatives and even some environmentalists are criticizing the final version of New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal as not yet ready for prime time. One major Democratic lawmaker even downplayed the idea’s importance going forward.
The resolution calls for “10-year national mobilizations” toward a series of goals aimed at fighting global warming, according to a copy of the bill obtained by NPR.
A separate fact sheet claims the plan would “mobilize every aspect of American society on a scale not seen since World War 2.” Not everyone feels the same.
“Who knew? ‘Green New Deal’ is a resolution, not a bill, which means it’s a ‘statement,’” Republican Sen. John Cornyn of Texas wrote in a tweet Thursday morning after Ocasio-Cortez and Democratic Sen. Edward Markey of Massachusetts released the plan. Other GOP lawmakers likewise dinged the Green New Deal for lacking seriousness.
Republican Rep. Doug Lamborn of Colorado, for instance, criticized what he believes is a tendency of Democrats to embark on unrealistic agenda.
“I guess I can understand if someone who has not a lot of life experience and they’re proposing something that’s extremely unrealistic,” he said at a House Natural Resources Committee hearing Wednesday. “Impossible. But what I don’t understand is adults, grown-ups who are older and more mature are also advocating something that is impossible.”
University of Colorado professor Roger Pielke Jr. echoed both Lamborn’s and Cornyn’s positions. “Almost no policy substance and that which is there is pretty weak tea: ‘reduce emissions … as much as technologically possible,’” Pielke Jr. wrote in a tweet Thursday. “Not yet worth debating here as there is not much to debate.”
Other conservatives called the plan a socialistic ploy. “Wealth transfer schemes suggested in the radical policies like the Green New Deal may not be the best path to community prosperity,” Illinois Rep. John Shimkus, the top Republican on the House Energy and Commerce subcommittee on climate change and other environmental issues, said in a statement.
The plan removed a call to eradicate fossil fuels, which is causing heartburn for some environmentalists.
Friends of the Earth President Erich Pica, for instance, was dour in his assessment of the final copy. “[T]he failure to mention and explicitly state that we have to end the era of fossil fuels is just a huge missed opportunity to be real about where we are and where we need to go,” Pica said in a statement Thursday, according to The Washington Post.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi downplayed Ocasio-Cortez’s plan and even poked fun at the idea. “It will be one of several or maybe many suggestions that we receive,” the California Democrat told reporters Wednesday. “The green dream or whatever they call it, nobody knows what it is, but they’re for it, right?”

Finally the curtain is being lifted on the real intentions of the radical climate change movement. Socialist Occasional-Cortex has hijacked a willing democrat party with a wealth transfer scheme. The Green Raw Deal is about money not weather. The tax windfall of a net carbon neutral plan is driving socialist democrats crazy with money/power lust. Trains, planes and automobiles would continue to exist under a crushing burden of carbon taxes. Electric rates, gasoline, diesel and natural gas prices will be out of reach.
Nothing beats knowing the plan of your opponent before the match begins. There’s going to be a mobilization all right; one that will bury these morons in the debris of their ridiculous plans.
Not a lot of life experience if no excuse for Ocasio-Cortez to be making unrealistic goals. My daughter is about her age and is well aware that we can’t go 100% renewable or even get close. People like Ocasio-Cortez have never bothered to understand the real world. Their decisions are purely based on emotions. They then reject anything information that doesn’t support these decisions.
A recently article showed that less than half of Americans would be willing to add $10 to their power bill to address climate change. Yet, the Green New Deal calls for “mobilize every aspect of American society on a scale not seen since World War 2.” Don’t forget, during World War II the US had suffered a big military defeat at Pearl Harbor and bombs were falling on London. Today anthropological climate change is a false problem created by tampered data.
I’d like to see AO-C get blind – sided with a basic science quiz.
She’s has an American education. She should be able to explain why we need to change our energy sources NOW. She can’t, but watching her try would be fun.
All courtesy of bag man Steyer and the climate con men club .
There must be some real shit in Steyer’s closet for him to have to pour money down the drain on his next electable candidate prospect .
The President didn’t even mention the climate cult in his speech which drove CNN berserk.
Now we find out the solar heated buoys which replaced the bucket test
are reading high . OOPS, and the “climate models ” almost universally over state warming too but lets not have facts ruin a real good con game .
Whats next … the hockey stick is fabricated nonsense too ?
Take the money out of the worlds biggest con game , build some walls and solve some real people problems . No wonder the President didn’t pump it’s tires .
Amber, it is good to hear from you. You used to comment more often.
Do remember that one congresswoman acknowledged that NOAA was altering historical data. She believed that we should ignore the data tampering and base our national policies on the fake data.
I believe that the intent of any carbon (dioxide) tax is to reduce emissions. If we reduced emissions as far as technology enables us, taxes won’t reduce emissions. If carbon dioxide emissions were reduced to zero, there would be no taxes, of any type, to pay for all the free stuff they’re promising.
That’s where the net worth tax fills in. Everything would come to a standstill, so tax anything that’s standing still.
