Until recently, those expressing skepticism about climate-change catastrophe have been hauled over the coals (or the renewables equivalent) for not understanding the difference between ‘climate’ and ‘weather.’
The lack of global warming at the beginning of the 21st century was not to be taken, chided the warmists, as evidence that climate change was not happening.
Weather was the passing phenomenon of each day: climate was the real, deep thing.
Now, however, the alarmists themselves have elided the two concepts, using the Australian bushfires as their cue.
As Sir David Attenborough puts it: ‘The moment of crisis has come.’ They could be right, of course, but how could they really know?
In this sense, President Trump is surely justified in warning, at Davos, against the ‘Prophets of Doom’.
Prophecy is a different skill from an exact understanding of the here and now.
Mr. Trump might usefully have talked about the Profits of Doom too.
If the movement can persuade western society that the climate emergency is upon us, there are enormous sums to be made by people who claim to be able to remedy it.
Hence, the patter now coming out of companies such as Blackrock, BP or Microsoft, fanned by Mammon’s public intellectuals, such as Mark Carney.
A lot of clever people are putting the Green into greenbacks. A lot of less clever investors are going to get their fingers burnt.

It is easy to understand the difference between weather and climate from the view point of the warmists. If an event is ordinary, it is part of the weather. If an event is bad, such as a hurricane or blizzard, then it is caused by climate change.
I just witnessed a blatant piece of media manipulation from China, and Fox News fell for it.
China wants the world to believe that they’re going to contain the corona virus. They’re going to build “pop-up” hospitals, ready to go this week. They’ve posted a video of a couple dozen excavators moving dirt around. Anyone who knows anything about construction would laugh at the video.
My point is that we’re not cynical enough. There it was, a truckload of Chinese propaganda, delivered by Fox. I’m ’bout ready to tune out
The difference between weather and climate is similar to find no cash in your wallet and declaring poverty. Contrarywise, find a wad of cash in your wallet on payday (check cashed) does not make one rich.
More to topic at hand, what I find amazing in the entire argument about global warming is the concept of carbon. The complaints we hard about carbon footprints, etc. deviate greatly from the substance the alarmist highlight as the evil of all evils: carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is made with carbon, but C is much different from CO2, yet the fools on the campaign use the terms interchangably. It proves to me they have no idea what they’re talking about. If we remind them that they are largely composed of carbon themselves, perhaps they’ll take they’ll accept the guilt and do away with themselves.
Climate alarmists attributed Australia’s hot, dry, drought conditions and bushfires to climate change. Large areas of Australia are now experiencing welcome rainfall – Northern Queensland is experiencing flooding rains whose river flows will be of incredible benefit to inland Australia and its river systems. Are the alarmists going to claim that the same ‘climate change’ is now equally responsible for the welcome rain? Most of us who are familiar with Australia’s climate history know that it is WEATHER.
