Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez fired back at JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon Wednesday after he criticized the Green New Deal — asking why no top bankers were busted following the 2008 economic collapse when fare beaters she represents can wind up behind bars.
“I represent kids that go to jail for jumping a turnstile because they can’t afford a MetroCard,” Ocasio-Cortez told Dimon during a House Financial Services Committee hearing on the industry’s preparedness for another crisis.
“Do you think that more folks should have gone to jail for their role in a financial crisis that led to 7.8 million foreclosures in the 10 years between 2007 and 2016?”
In a tweet, she also mentioned Dimon’s role in JPMorgan’s 2013 settlement with the feds over allegations that the bank fraudulently described the quality of mortgages it sold to hapless investors who later lost their shirts.

“So maybe they aren’t the best authority on prioritizing economic wellbeing of everyday people & the planet,” she wrote.
Her comments came after Dimon trashed the Green New Deal in an interview Tuesday.
“I don’t spend much time worrying about things that I can’t effectuate. Can you focus on climate change in an intelligent way that doesn’t damage the economy? Yes, you can. It’s called CO2 emission taxes, or trading, there’s a couple of ways to do it. So you better do it wisely because you could hurt the economy, which hurts everybody,” Dimon said during a CNN interview.

For once Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez might be right. It is not likely to happen again. Jamie Dimon said that taxes on carbon emissions are the way to fight climate change. Articles run on this web site document that higher home heating costs kill people. This will be the result of such taxes and already has happened in the UK. Therefore as AOC said, Jamie Dimon doesn’t have a good grasp of the economy. Where does he think that the money comes from to pay those taxes? Families forgo other items. This can mean less eating out, fewer clothes, less done on vacations, delaying the purchase of a new TV, and a host of other was to make up the money going to the new taxes. These responses harm the economy.
A big impact is the consequence of more expensive energy to industry. This will result in layoffs and in some cases business failures. My company is an excellent example. We make sonars for commercial fishermen. A hug, hug part of the cost for these fishermen is fuel. If there is an emissions tax added to this cost, they have less money to buy equipment such as sonars. My company is struggling and could easily go out of business as a consequence of the tax Jamie Dimon says won’t hurt the economy.
Families forgo other items. The main item that people forgo is ‘going to the doctor’ when sick during cold weather. Brisbane, Queensland has a climate similar to Florida – east coast sub-tropical. A recent study showed ‘excess deaths’ in ‘winter’ in Brisbane. Go figure…..
