UN Climate Talks: The Ritual

Each year since 1995, the nations of the world have gathered to try to reach a global agreement on carbon dioxide emissions.

These ‘Conferences of the Parties’, or COPs as they are usually termed, involve all of the members of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and take place towards the end of the year. This year will see the twenty-first COP take place in Paris.

Over the years the COPs have developed a style all of their own. Indeed, some observers have even gone as far as to suggest that each year sees less and less by way of meaningful activity, and more and more liturgy and ritual.

They may just have a point as our historical review reveals.

If the climate industry would level with us and admit that the weather cannot be changed, people could start to get behind some wealth distribution to help the poor.

The climate industry is mainly about wealth distribution to themselves . Screw the poor .

I have been following the global warming /climate change almost since the beginning. For at least the last 12 years each climate change conference is our very last chance to save the world from disaster. Always being the last chance is part of the ritual.

Correct David Lewis . Got to keep those save the planet conferences going . They have had enough practice that no matter what the holes ,off ramps and unaccountability is this will be announced a success so long as the money flows .

I would like to see a group picture for prosperity of the of the self dealers signing the contract which is no doubt already done .
