Load of bollocks: 2016 allegedly ‘hottest year’ by immeasurable 1/100 of a degree

It’s that time of year again, the annual media ritual of declaring the previous year “the hottest ever!”  And as usual, the media and many activists government scientists are playing fast and loose with the temperature data.

Former Vice President Al Gore promoted the “hottest year” claim today. “2016 was the hottest year on record — confirmed by NASA and NOAA,” Gore tweeted.  (More media hype here: CNN: 2016 was the hottest year on record — again & 2016 breaks record for hottest year ever)

But scientists seemed to yawn at the news.

Extreme Weather expert Dr. Roger Pielke Jr. noted that the media “hottest year” scare stories are simply not working. “Selling climate policy on “hottest year ever” hard because 2016 also had very low disasters & record high crop productivity. It doesn’t scare people,” Pielke wrote.

MIT climate scientist Dr. Richard Lindzen, was very blunt. (See: MIT climate scientist on ‘hottest year’: ‘The hysteria over this issue is truly bizarre’ ‚Äì Warns of return ‘back to the dark ages’)

Lindzen said in an interview on Howie Carr’s radio show: “To imply that a rise of temperature of a tenth of a degree is proof that the world is coming to an end — has to take one back to the dark ages.” He added, “As long as you can get people excited as to whether it’s a tenth of a degree warmer or cooler, then you don’t have to think, you can assume everyone who is listening to you is an idiot.”

“The whole point is so crazy because the temperature is always going up or down a little. What is astonishing is that in the last 20 years it hasn’t done much of anything,” Lindzen continued.

“What they don’t mention is there has been a big El Nino in 2016 and in recent months the temperature has been dropping back into a zero trend level,” he added.

To recap, both UAH and RSS say that atmospheric temperatures for 2016 statistically tied with 1998, at just 0.02C higher. Neither 2014 or 2015 were anywhere near being a record.’ ‘Satellite measurements of global temperatures are regarded as much more comprehensive, accurate and unaffected by UHI, as Roy Spencer explained in 2014.’

By being so selective about the truth global warming fear mongers are looking like a tired old group of chicken little’s . Ice free arctic , earth has a fever , extinct polar bears
are such worn out propaganda no one is frightened hence the great flood . But with each new media scare sound bite they look foolish .
Any warming we do get is consistent with the long exit cycle from the recent ice age and is absolutely fantastic news . Do scientists claim the planet would be better off cooling ? We all know climate changes but the sales pitch that humans are somehow running the world’s climate is pure Hollywood .
Enjoy the warming while it lasts . The scary global warming con men have had their day . Too bad the fraud cost tax payers $Trillions and 10’s of thousands of people unnecessary fuel poverty deaths .

    Hello,
At last! I have found somewhere that I can add my “ten penneth” to the global warming debate.
I have had grave concerns about the validity of many of the scientific aspects of global warming for sometime now . In particular I would question the accuracy of earlier, historical measurements of the planet’s average temperature and then being used when comparing ancient “on record” measuremements with more modern, increasingly more accurate and far greater in numbers and higher technological forms of

Well, I have a theory that since the number of sensors has been likely to have increased over the decades the measurement of average temperature has become more accurate. Since the increase in accuracy will indicate either a slightly higher or lower average than in previous decades, then the new results cannot be used as a like-for-like comparison. And I suspect that the same goes for whatever else is being measured, making the published data for past versus present comparisons totally invalid. In other words, the apparent rise in temperature may just be because of the increase in the number and in the greater accuracy of sampling points.
Can somebody, somewhere please confirm whether there has been an increase in the number of sensors over the years? Somebody, somewhere is paying for and co-ordinating these measurements and coming up with these comparisons.

How many highly accurate sensors are being now used to measure the world-wide average temperature? And how many nowhere near as accurate sensors were used in the past, particularly when “records began”?

I am concerned about any made made contributions that are being made to global climate change, but compared to what nature has thrown at us with the erratic ice age cycles, causing sea levels to fluctuate by over a hundred metres, volcanoes belching out toxic gases including CO2 (over 1500 active ones today), meteorites, asteroids, comets etc are potentially far more devastating.

There are extensive surface station networks run by NOAA and entities of other nations for temperature, humidity and trace gases.

Many microwave and infrared satellites launched by NASA, NOAA, EU, Japan, China, Russia also measure temperatures, a small subset also track CO2. None of these were available in the days “when records began”.

Just where is all this data collated?
