Climate spin: Behind-the-scenes emails show profs evading questions

ShuklaJagadish Shukla, Professor, Climate Dynamics, George Mason University (George Mason University)Newly released internal e-mails show George Mason University climate professors plotting a petition calling on government to prosecute skeptics of global warming using RICO laws designed to go after the mob. They got 20 scientists to sign their petition and sent it to government officials before withdrawing in the face of controversy.

The new emails show GMU professors Jagadish Shukla and Edward Maibach discussing everything from how to craft their petition to appeal to conservatives, to getting warnings from others that the petition would go over poorly, to evading media questions.

In the emails, the professors decided to ignore questions from FoxNews.com about why the lead petition author, Jagadish Shukla, used government grants to give himself and his family some $500,000 in salary and benefits in 2014 — which FoxNews.com reported in October. The professors decided to reach out to the Washington Post instead.

“They were running a well-used page in their playbook … get the legacy media to play defense for them,” Chris Horner, who forced the public release of the emails by filing a “Freedom of Information Act” request, told FoxNews.com.

The Freedom of Information Act allows citizens to demand to see the official correspondence of government employees (George Mason University is public.) Horner works at the Competitive Enterprise Institute (CEI), a think tank that is skeptical that global warming is a serious problem.

Horner says he feel vindicated by the release of the emails, because George Mason University officials initially told him that there were “no records” of the professors discussing RICO prosecution in their official capacity.

But Horner and CEI proved that there were such emails by first obtaining some emails from professors at other universities who had corresponded on the subject with the George Mason University professors (who used their work emails.)

Armed with that proof, Horner and CEI sued George Mason University to release the emails, and a Judge’s ruling on May 13th made it happen.

The emails show GMU professors Shukla and Maibach planning to make a media splash.

“If we can find one co-signer in every one of the nation’s 435 Congressional districts, we will end up sending the letter to every member of Congress — which would be spectacular. The letter will get lots of media attention,” Professor Maibach wrote Shukla while planning the letter.

Shukla hired his wife and kid while taking government grants and a University pay check . He conspired with others with the objective of silencing those that don’t agree with he and is fellow witch hunters .

Science is about debate and people who claim to be scientists but resort to this cowardly attempt to interfere with first amendment rights don’t belong in the science field let alone the country .

If George Mason University condones this
behaviour why would anyone go there ?
Fascists disguised as scientists. Thank goodness there were only 20 stupid enough to show their ignorance of the Constitution .

Yes climate changes, it is warming ,and humans must have some small impact
but cut the propaganda BS . The earth doesn’t have a fever and the planet is better off overall with warming .
It’s time real scientists started telling the truth . The study of climate science is in it’s infancy but one thing is certain natural variables such as the sun have always run the show .

Given the amount of grant money being thrown at these imposters no wonder they freak out when their gravy train is going off a cliff .

This should end with jail time. I hope it does. Meanwhile, I bet there’s a whole lot of people sighing with relief that they didn’t add their names to the 20.

Trump will take one giant step forward to making America Great Again when he stops erosion of values caused by the misallocation and waste of tax payer money .
Hillary’s big idea… eliminate coal worker
jobs ,coal companies and shut down fossil fuel . Oh put out a $$ 30 billion dollar bribe to shut them up . Not wanting to appear completely retarded or heartless .

If Trump gets in as POTUS, it will be interesting to see if he goes through with his AGW elimination plans.
    I hope he does.
The CAGW scam has got to be brought down.
And maybe the skeptics can lay some fraud charges.

Al, I hope you are right. When the ship is just about to go down for good one of the inside weasels will not be able to resist a finger pointing book and rubber chick circuit speaking engagements . . That should provide enough threads (if there aren’t already enough ) to go after the people behind this massive fraud where ever they hide .

What’s really funny about this is when I typed Jagadish Shukla into the search bar at Rocksinthehead’s goto misinformation site “Source Watch”.

The only thing that came up was this. Not a peep about Jagdish Shukla or his scandal. Left Wing Bias much? 😀

    http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php/George_Mason_University

Seems the Ultra Evil Koch Brothers, who are key funders of the right-wing infrastructure, are funding these George Mason University climate professors.

Professors who were plotting a petition calling on government to prosecute skeptics of global warming using RICO laws designed to go after the mob.

Does the evil of those two Koch brothers(who are not paying me to troll 😥 ) know no bounds?

No “maybe” about it; fraud charges SHOULD be laid against those who have clearly exceeded the burden of proof…which means they will have to validate their research conclusions in front of a judge. Sad that we can’t trust our education system and science peer groups operating within them to police themselves.
